The DBE national policy on HIV, STIs and TB "was developed through a participatory consultative process with stakeholders inside and outside the Basic Education sector, The Policy presents a bold new vision for the sector, to drive the response on HIV, Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) as well as Tuberculosis. it is aligned to, and presents the sector's contribution towards the National Strategic Plan on HiV, STIs and TB for South Africa, 2017 -2022 (the NSP). The Policy replaces the 1999 Department of Education National Policy on HiV /AIDS for Learners and Educators in Public Schools and Students and Educators in Further Education and Training Institutions. As South Africa strives to realise quality basic education and an HIV - free generation among the under -20 age group by 2030, this Policy will guide the strategies required to realise a systematic and sustained response to HIV and TB and ensure that it is the business of everyone in the sector to prevent disease and promote the health and well - being of learners, educators and officials in all our schools."
