DBE national policy on HIV, STIs and TB

The DBE national policy on HIV, STIs and TB "was developed through a participatory consultative process with stakeholders inside and outside the Basic Education sector, The Policy presents a bold new vision for the sector, to drive the response on HIV, Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) as well as Tuberculosis. it is aligned to, and presents the sector's contribution towards the National Strategic Plan on HiV, STIs and TB for South Africa, 2017 -2022 (the NSP). The Policy replaces the 1999 Department of Education National Policy on HiV /AIDS for Learners and Educators in Public Schools and Students and Educators in Further Education and Training Institutions."

The Department of Trade and Industry has published the Draft Defence Sector Codes of Good Practice for public comment. "The Defence Sector Code aims, within the defence industry, to give effect to the constitutionally enshrined right to equality by addressing the systemic past exclusion of Black people from participating in the economy, which effects remain firmly in place."

First biennial report to Cabinet on the State of Climate Change Science and Technology in South Africa

"The first report, The State of Climate Change Science and Technology in South Africa undertaken by the Academy of Science of South Africa (ASSAf) on behalf of the DST, has been completed and endorsed by Cabinet. The second report is due in March 2019. The report assesses the climate change science and technology landscape and highlights the key challenges and impacts in South Africa over the next 30 years. While the country is set to face challenges brought about by climate change, our science research community, which is focusing on this global threat, is productive, well respected and growing."

This year's commemoration of Women's Day on 9 August "marks the 61st anniversary of the Women’s March to the Union Buildings on 9 August 1956. On that day up to 20 000 women of all races, class and religious pesuasions protested against the extension of Pass Laws. The march was a turning point in the role of women in the struggle for freedom and our society at large."
